Emergency Alert System Tested at 2 pm Today

A nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System will be conducted today at approximately 2pm. The test is being conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Communications Commission.

During the test, radio and television programming will be interrupted by the familiar tone followed by the message “This is a test” for approximately 30 seconds.

All radio and TV stations, cable television providers, and even satellite radio and TV providers will also be participating. Previous tests have been utilized to only test systems locally but this particular test will be the first ever to try the entire national system simulatenously.

Citizens are reminded that this is only a test of the EAS and not an actual event.
