Vandalism Knocks Out Sawyer Power
The Upper Peninsula Power Company says earlier this morning, a Sawyer residential area experienced an approximately three-hour outage caused by an apparent act of vandalism at the Sawyer substation.
Lisa Prunty, Manager and Public Relations for UPPCO, says, “Fortunately, no one was injured during or after the act took place. Safety around electricity is a priority for UPPCO, employees and customers.”
Prunty said in a news release that signs are posted around the perimeter of the substation to warn individuals about safety and to stay away from the substation and its equipment to prevent harm.
She also issued a reminder that next Thursday, November 10, the Sawyer residential area will be without power due to a planned outage. She said last night’s event had nothing to do with next week’s planned outage.
