Downed Tree on US-41
High winds and downed trees again swept across Upper Michigan over the weekend.
In the middle of the wind storm, four Michigan Tech students received the scare of a lifetime Saturday afternoon.
The car they were riding in was damaged when a massive tree fell onto the roadway in front of them.
It was just before 5pm Saturday when the large pine tree toppled onto US–41.
High winds, gusting to 30 miles per hour at times, are being blamed for the accident.
MTU student Kevin Bennett says he and his three passengers were thankful that his car was the only thing damaged.
His vehicle sustained noticeable damage to the front end.
The car’s grille, bumper and quarter panels were knocked off.
The radiator was damaged and the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
At least one good Samaritan quickly helped at the scene with a chain saw.
