Repairs Planned for Portage Lift Bridge

The Michigan Department of Transportation says repairs to the Portage Lift Bridge are expected to take place either late this fall or early in the spring.

Last week, an oversized excavator struck the bridge while attempting to cross. MDOT Transportation Engineer Andy Sikkema said the damage was more than superficial.

Though the bridge didn’t appear to be heavily damaged, MDOT made sure everything was safe. The cost of the damages haven’t been determined yet but Sikkema says citizens need not worry about getting stuck with the bill.
