L’Anse Bridge Project Update
The lengthy South Main Street bridge replacement project in L’Anse is officially over. The village council approved the final payment on the project at last night’s meeting.
The project began in 2009 after the 90-year-old bridge that connected downtown L’Anse to the CertainTeed plant across the Falls River was condemned. The State of Michigan contributed more than $2 million dollars to the project… and the village of L’Anse paid about $120,000.
CertainTeed also received tax incentives to maintain its existing job force in Baraga County… and has added additional positions since. Along with the new bridge, turn lanes into CertainTeed’s raw materials lot were built along US-41 this summer.
