Portage Health – University Center
A western U.P. hospital will be adding to its current health facility to better treat members of the community and nearby students.
The official groundbreaking of the new Portage Health – University Center location took place this morning at Michigan Tech University.
Portage Health president and CEO Jim Bogan says the joint project will expand and renovate the existing building, which sees significantly more patients today than it did when it opened in 2000.
While this new facility will be a healthcare asset in the community, Michigan Tech president Dr. Glenn Mroz says the university can also use it to promote health care careers on campus.
In addition to offering more health care choices, the new building will provide numerous jobs during both the building phase and when it opens.
The new facility should be up and running within a year.
