Charges from Fatal Motorcycle Wreck

Charges have been filed in a motorcycle fatality that happened in Ishpeming almost a month ago.

47-year-old Rodney Stewart, Jr. of Ishpeming has been charged in 96th District Court with a moving violation causing death.

That offense is a one-year misdemeanor.

On July 6th, Stewart pulled out from the Holiday gas station on US-41 into the path of a motorcycle.

36-year-old James Maatta of Ely Township was riding the eastbound bike.

He died from his injuries.

Stewart stood mute on the charges, so a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

He has an August 16th pretrial conference.
