Marquette Area Public Schools New Building Plan

WITH STATE WIDE BUDGET CUTS ACROSS THE BOARD FOR EDUCATION, SCHOOL DISTRICTS ACROSS THE STATE HAVE BEEN FORCED TO RE-EVALUATE SPENDING AND FINANCIAL NEEDS.

OVER THE NEXT 5 YEARS, ONE LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL BE SEEING SOME BIG CHANGES.

AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS ARE HOPING FOR A BIG PAYOFF.

OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, MARQUETTE AREA PUBLIC SCHOOLS WILL BE TRYING TO PASS A PLAN TO RENOVATE THE SCHOOLS IN THE DISTRICT.

THE PLAN WILL COST CLOSE TO 30 MILLION DOLLARS.

IT WILL FOCUS MAINLY ON A NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL FACILITY —AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.

SHE SAYS THE PLAN TO MOVE THE SIXTH THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE TO THE HIGH SCHOOL WOULD BENEFIT THE STUDENTS AND PARENTS AS WELL.

MOVING START TIMES FROM 7:30 TO 8 AT THE HIGH SCHOOL IS ONE OF THE MORE POPULAR IDEAS.

AS PART OF THE REMODELING PLAN, THE DISTRICT WOULD IMPLEMENT NEW TECHNOLOGIES INTO THE CLASSROOMS TO HELP IMPROVE LEARNING.

ONE OF THE BIGGEST QUESTIONS OF THE PLAN IS WHAT WILL BECOME OF BOTHWELL MIDDLE SCHOOL?

RIGHT NOW, THE PLAN IS TO TEAR DOWN BOTHWELL AFTER THE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS MAKE THE MOVE TO THE HIGH SCHOOL.

THE BOTHWELLL LOCATION WOULD BE USED AS SPORTS FIELDS OR PUT UP FOR SALE.
