Kayak Accident Near Pictured Rocks
IT WAS A CLOSE CALL FOR A GROUP OF KAYAKERS OVER THE WEEKEND.
IT HAPPENED ON LAKE SUPERIOR SATURDAY AFTERNOON AFTER WAVES CAUSED THEIR KAYAKS TO CAPSIZE IN ALGER COUNTY.
PICTURED ROCKS NATIONAL LAKESHORE OFFICIALS SAY A GROUP OF 18 KAYAKERS WERE PADDLING WHEN THREE OF THE KAYAKS CAPSIZED AGAINST A 200–FOOT CLIFF WEST OF MOSQUITO BEACH.
THE FOURTH KAYAK WAS STILL OCCUPIED, BUT THE KAYAKER WAS HAVING DIFFICULTIES IN THE WAVES.
THE REST OF THE GROUP WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SHORE.
A PASSING PICTURED ROCKS CRUISE BOAT WAS FLAGGED DOWN AND CONTACTED AUTHORITIES.
ONE KAYAKER WAS TREATED FOR MILD HYPOTHERMIA
