SPEED, ALCOHOL AND DRUGS ARE BELIEVED TO BE FACTORS IN AN EARLY MORNING POLICE CHASE AND ACCIDENT IN DELTA COUNTY’S BARK RIVER AREA
IT HAPPENED ABOUT TWO THIS MORNING ON US–2 NEAR D ROAD.
TROOPERS FROM THE GLADSTONE POST OF THE MICHIGAN STATE POLICE OBSERVED THE VEHICLE TRAVELLING AT 85 MILES AN HOUR.
WHEN OFFICERS GAVE PURSUIT, THE SPEEDING VEHICLE VEERED OFF THE ROAD, HIT A CURB, AND WENT AIRBORNE.
IT TRAVELLED ABOUT 40 FEET IN THE AIR, HIT A TELEPHONE POLE, A PARKED CAR, AND THEN CONTINUED INTO AN ABANDONED BUILDING.
THE BUILDING SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE.
THE DRIVER WAS TAKEN TO OSF ST. FRANCIS HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT AND THEN TRANSFERRED TO THE DELTA COUNTY JAIL.
HIS NAME IS BEING UNTIL HE’S ARRAIGNED.
