Founders Landing Hotel Update
THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE LAKESHORE IN MARQUETTE HAS HIT A SNAG.
MEMBERS FROM THE BROWNFIELD REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY ALONG WITH THE MARQUETTE CITY COMMISSIONERS TOOK A TOUR OF THE HOTEL SITE AT FOUNDERS LANDING THIS MORNING.
THE TOUR WAS DESIGNED TO SHOW THEM HOW CONSTRUCTION HAS BEEN GOING AND TO TALK ABOUT SOME OF THE PROBLEMS AND SET BACKS THAT HAVE OCCURRED.
BARRY POLZIN, THE ARCHITECT BEHIND THE PROJECT SAYS THAT THEY HAVE BEEN SLOWED DUE TO WATER ISSUES AND VERY POOR SOIL.
POLZIN SAYS THAT A LOT OF THE PROBLEMS STEM FROM THE ASH, GLASS AND OTHER DEBRIS THAT WERE DUMPED AT THE SITE FOLLOWING THE MARQUETTE FIRE OF 1868.
WHILE THE BOARDWALK WHICH IS ON THE WATER FRONT IS ESSENTIALLY COMPLETE, IT CANNOT BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC DUE TO THE HAZARDS OF THE SURROUNDING CONSTRUCTION SITE.
OFFICIALS STILL THINK THAT THE HOTELS FOUNDATION SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY AUGUST AND BUT COULD NOT SAY IF A LARGE PORTION OF THE HOTEL WILL BE COMPLETED BY DECEMBER.
