Fire Safety Tips from the DNR
SUMMERTIME IN THE U–P MEANS PLENTY OF TIME SPENT OUTDOORS.
BUT WHETHER YOU’RE SPENDING YOUR TIME RELAXING AROUND THE CAMPFIRE OR WORKING THE DAY AWAY IN YOUR YARD BURNING BRUSH — WHEN IT COMES TO ANY TYPE OF FIRE, SAFETY MUST BE THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.
MANY COMMUNITIES NOW REQUIRE YOU HAVE A BURN PERMIT TO BURN NATURAL DEBRIS IN YOUR YARD.
THAT INCLUDES GRASS, LEAVES, AND BRUSH.
THERE ARE ALSO REGULATIONS AND GUIDELINES WHEN IT COMES TO BURNING WASTE FROM YOUR HOME.
YOU AREN’T REQUIRED TO HAVE A PERMIT FOR A CAMPFIRE BUT THERE ARE STILL SAFETY MEASURES YOU SHOULD FOLLOW.
WHEN YOU ARE BURNING NATURAL DEBRIS IN YOUR YARD THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES SAYS THAT THE TIME OF DAY YOU CHOSE TO BURN CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
