Michaels Debit Fraud Misses the U.P.
A national chain of arts and crafts stores has been hit by scam artists.
The scammers have been doctoring the touch pads where customers using debit cards type in their PIN numbers.
Michaels stores in 20 states had their PIN pads tampered with.
But a public relations firm for the company says Michigan and Wisconsin are not among those states.
They say the fraud transactions happened from February 8th through last Friday.
Michaels has disabled the tampered pads, as well as thousands more pads similar to the affected ones.
Credit card information may also have been exposed.
But the PR firm says law enforcement officials don’t have any reports of credit card fraud related to the pads.
Michaels is urging customers to take precautions, like checking your accounts for unauthorized transactions.
