Blue Cross Computer Donation
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan has just donated 20 laptop computers to the U.P. PRIDE project.
PRIDE stands for Poverty Reduction Initiative Depends on Everyone.
Blue Cross says this is an effort to support, empower and educate people in poverty and assist them toward self-sufficiency.
The PRIDE Initiative refers to people who take part in the program as Neighbors.
The laptops will go to local Neighbors who are matched with trained volunteers, called Navigators, who work one-on-one with their Neighbor to help provide basic computer and Internet literacy training.
U.P. PRIDE is a community-driven, collaborative effort to reduce poverty
in the Upper Peninsula area.
Representatives include regional businesses, public and government agencies, and local citizens.
The initiative is in the process of identifying those most in need of computer and Internet literacy assistance.
Earlier this year, Blue Cross donated laptops to a similar program in Traverse City.
