U.P. Collegiate Job Fair
The signs may be few and far between, and the improvement may be very slow.
But occasionally, we are seeing some signs that the economy may be on the way back up.
There may be more demand for college students and recent grads at the annual Upper Great Lakes Collegiate Job Fair.
About 40 employers came from across the Midwest — from the Michigan DNR to police agencies to service and retail companies.
NMU Career Services assistant director Steve LaFond says several hundred students came in from across the U.P., since every college and university in the U.P. co-sponsors the fair each year.
The event encouraged students to approach as many potential employers as possible.
And there were some types of employers around today who hadn’t made it to the job fair in a while.
LaFond says several manufacturers returned to the fair for the first time in a number of years because they believe their business is picking back up enough for them to need to recruit new employees.
