Marine One Scopes Out Obama’s Travel Route
Many people in the central U.P. received a very visible sign today that the President’s visit is very close at hand.
You already know that the Boeing 747 airplane that flies the President all over the world is officially dubbed Air Force One.
But the Marine Corps also maintains helicopters for the President to travel in.
At least one goes along with the President wherever he goes.
And whichever chopper the President is flying in at any given moment is officially called Marine One.
It made a fly–by this afternoon through Marquette’s airspace to scope out the best way around town.
Marine One is sometimes the best way for the President to travel short distances, since motorcades can be expensive and can sometimes be more difficult logistically than a single aircraft.
