Suspected Esky Embezzler
State Police from the Newberry Post have arrested an Escanaba woman for embezzlement from the Michigan Association of Timbermen.
The investigation goes back to last August.
That’s when Gladstone Public Safety began looking into allegations that Daust had been embezzling from the Michigan Association of Timbermen for two years when she worked for them in Newberry and Gladstone.
She initially admitted to embezzling about $10,000.
Further investigation identified the theft at over $60,000, and an additional amount of more than $12,000 in unauthorized credit card transactions were attributed to her.
She was arraigned Thursday on a felony embezzlement charge.
The charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $15,000 or both.
Daust was released on a $50,000 personal recognizance bond pending her preliminary exam on January 20th.
The State Police Computer Crimes Unit is analyzing MAT computers for evidence of further involvement by Daust or other MAT employees.
