Free Food for Veterans on Veterans’ Day
Retailers and restaurants both around the country and in the U.P. are offering specials to veterans and active-duty military members tomorrow.
Applebees in Marquette is continuing a tradition of providing a complimentary meal on Veterans’ Day.
From 10am to 11pm tomorrow, the restaurant will offer a free meal to veterans and active duty members.
Jeff Kristola, general manager of the Applebees in Marquette, says the free meal gives employees a chance to say ‘thank you’.
Many other national and local retailers do something similar.
Some Subway restaurants are offering veterans and current members of the military a free 6-inch sub on Veterans’ Day.
Two Subways in Houghton are participating — on Shelden Avenue and on Pearl Avenue.
So is the Subway store in Munising.
If you don’t see a sign posted, you can always ask, but be sure to have a military ID card available.
For example, Lowes Home Improvement Centers offers a year-round 10% military discount.
The ‘Y’ of Marquette County provides free membership for active duty members and reduced rates for family members.
And because Veterans’ Day is a federal holiday, banks, post offices and many other kinds of governmental offices will be closed.
