Marquette Beach Safety Task Force
Multiple drownings off Marquette’s shoreline have caused the city to take action and look at ways to prevent future incidents.
Its first step: creating a safety task force.
Marquette is currently accepting applications for the task force.
The 7-member volunteer group will look into ways the beaches can be made safer.
City Manager Bill Vajda says they’ll look at raising awareness on the dangers in the waters and working with emergency preparedness and response.
The city plans to have the members of the task force finalized by the next commission meeting.
And the group will begin work on safety efforts at the end of this year’s summer season.
