Portage Health Leads Gift of Life
Portage Health gets statewide recognition for its efforts to encourage organ donation in Michigan.
Gift of Life Michigan visited the hospital today with an award for it.
It’s one of the top 10 hospitals in the state for getting people to join the organ donor registry.
More than 225 people have done it so far this year through Portage Health.
Dialysis center director Karen Kelly has been working on this since April.
She says she was taken aback by the visit because it’s not every day that a hospital Portage Health’s size can beat out hospitals in Grand Rapids, Lansing and Flint for the number of people signing up.
Portage Health’s goal for the year is 400 people.
It has a sign–up computer kiosk in the lobby in Hancock, which only a couple of Michigan hospitals have.
