EPA Rules on Kennecott Permit
The federal government removes the last permitting hurdle between Kennecott and the Eagle Mine that it wants to build in marquette county.
It’s been a lingering question whether or not Kennecott’s parent company needs federal permits from the EPA.
The answer is apparently ‘no’.
The EPA says the proposed mine’s water control system does not need a federal permit to go along with the state permit rio tinto already has.
The decision means that Kennecott has all of the permits needed to build the mine and to restore the Humboldt Mill.
Construction is already underway.
Production is expected to start 3 years from now.
