U.P. Unemployment Falls in February
Unemployment all over Michigan is falling a little bit from the start of the year.
But it’s still well above where it was a year ago.
14.8% of the U.P. work force was unemployed in February, the latest figures available.
It’s down a little from January, but it’s still nearly 2 percentage points higher than the same time last year.
The Michigan statewide rate is almost as high, 14.6%, after also being 12.9% in early 2009.
Marquette County has the lowest jobless rate in the U.P. and the 7th-lowest among Michigan counties at 11.7%.
But Mackinac County is the highest in the state, with 3 out of every 10 people in the work force out of work.
Baraga County is 2nd in the state at 28.3%.
