Fatal Snowmobile Accident in Hancock
A Hancock man is dead after a snowmobile accident in the city overnight.
Police say it happened at about 1:30 this morning at the intersection of Tomasi Drive and Portage Drive.
45-year-old Robert Kiviniemi was riding a snowmobile on Tomasi Drive and was trying to turn at that intersection.
But he missed the turn, hit a snowbank and went airborne.
Police say he was thrown more than 50 feet from the machine before hitting a street sign.
Kiviniemi died at Portage Health from his injuries.
City police are still piecing it together.
But so far, they believe high speed and alcohol use were factors in the crash.
