Fundraising Dinner for Homeless Former Firefighter & Family
The Powell Township Fire Department is helping a former firefighter of theirs whose home burned down over the weekend.
The Dionne family lost their home in Big Bay Saturday night.
Larry Dionne was a volunteer firefighter for more than 20 years.
Now his comrades are holding a spaghetti dinner tomorrow night to help him out.
The Dionnes have a teenage daughter, and a family friend in the Army National Guard who recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq was also living with them.
They lost everything in the blaze.
Another family friend, Sandy Vargo, says Larry Dionne had been working on the house for 2 years to make it insurable, but that he didn’t have homeowners’ insurance yet.
The benefit is tomorrow night at the Powell Township Fire and Ambulance Hall from 5 to 7.
There’s no charge required, but donations are being accepted to help get the Dionnes back on their feet.
