Munising Ready for New Police Station & Fire Hall
Munising is on the verge of greatly improving its police and fire facilities.
At the moment, the police department takes up just a small space in City Hall.
The city also wants the police vehicles to be parked in a covered location to better work around the heavy snow.
City Manager Doug Bovin says the plan also includes moving the fire department to the same new space because the current fire hall is structurally flawed.
The construction is covered by a long-term, low-interest loan from the USDA Rural Development program.
Bovin is hopeful construction will start soon.
The new hall will be on Mill Street next to the Munising Credit Union.
It’ll have easy access to M-28 and County Road H-58, the 2 main highways that run through town.
