Water Project OK’d in Marquette Township

Marquette Township is going ahead with its ambitious plan to improve its drinking water.

The township board decided to move forward with a well-drilling project that could cost up to $5.3 million.

A little more than $2.1 million would come through federal stimulus funds, about 40% of the price tag.

The rest of the money would come through bonds in project costs to Marquette County.

$1.8 million has already been spent or committed to the new wells.

The township already uses multiple wells and water from the City of Marquette through Lake Superior.

The township doesn’t plan on ending that arrangement.

The additional cost should be somewhere from $7 to $8 per month for everyone in the township who uses the water system.

If the county refuses the bond proposal, Marquette Township would likely have to look into public financing.

That would be a much more expensive option.
