State Police in the Keweenaw think they’ve found the driver in the weekend hit-and-run accident that killed a 2-year-old.
Troopers say an elderly man contacted them yesterday.
The man told them he know he’d hit something on US-41 in Chassell Sunday night near Massie road.
However, he didn’t know it was a child until he read about the accident yesterday morning.
He said he turned around to see what he’d hit, but because the sun was down and the highway isn’t lit, he couldn’t see anything and went home.
Police believe he hit 2-year-old Dylan DeForge, who wandered onto the highway after getting out of his family’s enclosed yard.
The boy died later that night.
Police are checking the man’s vehicle to determine if it was the one in the accident.
They say confirmation could come anytime in the next week, and they won’t release the man’s name until after it comes.
