Two injured, one cited in two-car accident
MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — Two people were injured in a crash on US-41 in Marquette Township Wednesday afternoon.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post say the accident happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of the highway and the service road in front of GFS Foods. 22-year-old Alexis Pomplun of Berlin, Wisconsin was traveling west on US-41 when the car driven by 79-year-old Anita Vartti of Skandia attempted to turn onto the eastbound lanes from the service road. Vartti’s car crossed paths with Pomplun’s and the two collided.
Pomplun was treated and released at the scene. Vartti was transported to U.P. Health System – Marquette for treatment of her injuries. Police say Vartti was also cited for failure to yield.
State Police were assisted at the scene by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department, Marquette Township Fire Department, and UP Health System EMS.
