NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP — Two teenage girls were taken to the hospital after a one-car accident this afternoon in Negaunee Township.

Just after 1 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to County Road 510 between North Basin and White Bear Drive. A 2002 Buick Enclave was headed south on County Road 510 when it failed to properly negotiate a curve. The vehicle went off the road, crashing into several trees and some brush.

The 16 year old driver of Marquette and her 15 year old passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment of non–life threatening injuries. The driver was cited for driving too fast.

Seat belts were worn and alcohol was not a factor. The vehicle is considered to be a total loss. The accident remains under investigation.
