WAKEFIELD — One man is behind bars after a standoff incident with police Saturday night.
At approximately 8pm Saturday, the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a distraught 30-year-old man who was at home with his 3-year-old child. The man would not come out of his home and he threatened to shoot the police officers on scene.
The Gogebic/Iron Area SWAT Team was called in to help at the scene. Neighboring homes were evacuated and a perimeter was set by law enforcement officials.
The distraught man was eventually talked into releasing his child. He then surrendered around 10pm.
No injuries were reported. The man was charged with four counts of assaulting/resisting/obstructing an officer and one count of Child Abuse – 2nd Degree. He is currently being lodged in the Gogebic County Jail until he is arraigned.
