UPDATE: Name released in Manistique shooting incident

UPDATE: The man accused of shooting a handgun at three men was arraigned in Schoolcraft County District Court this afternoon.

17-year-old Jacob Volk is charged with six felony counts: three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, one count of carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, and one count felony firearm.

Police say that Volk fired a shot at three men Friday afternoon at Manistique’s Central Park near the softball field. Volk was arrested by police Saturday afternoon.

Volk is due back in court on June 24 for his preliminary exam.

No one was hurt during the shooting incident.


 

MANISTIQUE — A 17-year-old man is in trouble with the law after police say he fired a handgun at another man.

Manistique Public Safety was contacted at approximately 4pm Friday by three Manistique residents who said that another man allegedly fired a shot at one of them at Central Park. After the three men were taken back to the police station for safety reasons, officers set out to look for the suspect in the alleged shooting.

During their investigation, police determined that a shooting incident did take place at the park. The man was taken into custody in Manistique Township Saturday afternoon.

The suspect remains in jail on a “no bond” stipulation. He has been charged with three counts of Felonious Assault and one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

The man will be arraigned in Schoolcraft County District Court Monday. Schoolcraft County Prosecutor Timothy Noble is reviewing the incident. More additional charges could be brought against the teenager.

No one was hurt during the alleged shooting. Several law enforcement agencies, including the Michigan State Police, assisted Manistique Public Safety with their investigation.
