ONTONAGON COUNTY — Five hikers were found after failing to return from their trip on Saturday.

The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office reports that a Houghton man contacted their department around midnight to let them know that his wife, three children, and another adult female had not returned from a day hike in the Porcupine Mountains. The party had left Houghton at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Deputies collected information and searched the area with the help of several other agencies. Search teams were given accounts of sightings of the group, and the hikers were found in good health shortly after 11:00 a.m.

Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park Rangers, Michigan State Police, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and the Community Emergency Response Team Search and Rescue.
