COPPER HARBOR — Oktoberfest is a sixteen-day celebration in Germany, but in Copper Harbor there’s only one.

Friends and family gathered at the Historic Keweenaw Mountain Lodge to celebrate German tradition, and they had a great time doing it.

The Keweenaw Mountain Lodge’s General Manager and Event Coordinator Alyssa Bakun says, “We started it last year as an annual closing event, just to create more business for the Harbor and for the lodge itself, and it’s been pretty much a big hit since. We try to keep it authentic with German food, German dress, German music and the biergarten and dancing the polka.”

The Keweenaw Mountain Lodge was built in 1934 and has a lot to offer. Like a weekly buffet and a nine-hole golf course.

Bakun says, “We have a bunch of bike festivals that go on as well as wedding every weekend. Sometimes two or three weddings. We do a lot of corporate retreats. This is our final party for the Harbor pretty much.”

The lodge plans to round out the season with a prime rib buffet on October 17th.
