On behalf of the Marquette Alger Community Labor Council, AFL-CIO and the U.P. Regional Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, we are pleased to invite you and your organization to participate in the 27th Annual Labor Day Festival!
The event will be held in Ishpeming on Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2016. The Festival will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a parade along Euclid Street, Main Street, Division Street and Lakeshore Drive. This year’s Parade Marshall will be Stu Skauge, newly retired from MEA. After, there will be a picnic and rally from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum (Marquette Range Iron Mining Heritage Theme Park) and the Lake Bancroft Park on Lakeshore Drive and Euclid Streets.
The theme for this year is “Bridging Generations of Labor”. We encourage Local Unions to march and enter floats in the parade that reflect this theme. Prizes for floats are 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place trophies. Please contact Tony Ghiringhelli (906) 236-3889 or Rich Helgren (906) 458-8380 for details and to confirm your participation. Parade line up starts at 9:00 a.m. and will be based upon a draw from the hat.
Marq Tran will be providing transportation to and from Ishpeming from both the Marquette (old JC Penney Mall parking lot) and Negaunee (Lakeview School parking lot). The scheduled times are as follows:
JC Penney Westwood Mall 9:00 am and 10:00 am
Lakeview School 9:30 am and 10:30 am
Cliffs Shaft 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm
Parking will be available at the Cliff Shaft and the Ishpeming Elks Club.
We will be having a picnic lunch. The cost of lunch tickets will be $6.00. The menu includes the following; your choice of a pasty or 2 hot dogs & chips, desert and pop or milk. Tickets for adult beverages will be $3.00 each. Additional pop and water will be $1.00 each.
The Picnic and Rally will include music by Low Street, speeches from candidates, union officials and children’s activities. In addition, The Cliff Shaft volunteers will once again be providing free tours (donations will be accepted and are encouraged!) from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. for those that are interested in visiting the Museum.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated participation! Last year’s event was AWESOME! With your help, the 27th annual Labor Day Festival can and will be bigger and better!
