Police say reported shooting did not occur

HEMATITE TOWNSHIP — The report of a shooting at a residence in Iron County over the weekend turned out to be false.

Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain post investigated the report in Hematite Township shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Sunday evening. As a result of their investigation, troopers determined that a shooting did not occur. One person at the residence was arrested for a probation violation.

Police say they interviewed the suspect who allegedly made the 911 call to Iron County Dispatch. A warrant request will be submitted to the Iron County Prosecutor for charges.
