Gov. Whitmer plans to make Michigan carbon-neutral by 2050

LANSING — Governor Gretchen Whitmer is taking action to fight climate change.
Earlier today, she signed an executive order creating the MI Healthy Climate Plan, which would make Michigan carbon–neutral by 2050.
In a statement, Whitmer said, “The science is clear – climate change is directly impacting our public health, environment, our economy, and our families. This dangerous reality is already causing harm throughout Michigan, with communities of color and low–income Michiganders suffering disproportionately, which is why I’m taking immediate action to protect our state.”
Under the plan, Michigan aims to achieve a 28 percent reduction below 1990 levels in greenhouse gas emissions by 2025.
The plan also intends to create clean energy and energy efficiency jobs.
To meet the state’s goals, Whitmer tasked the department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) to develop and implement the MI Healthy Climate Plan.
