Salvation Army offering food pantry delivery

MARQUETTE COUNTY — The Salvation Army is now providing delivery for anyone in need of items from the food pantry.

Many people who depend on the food pantry currently aren’t able to visit the Salvation Army in person. That could be due to transportation issues, preexisting health concerns with COVID–19, or a number of other situations.

Salvation Army Captain Doug Winters says they wanted to find a way to continue serving those in need for the duration of the pandemic.

“We discovered that while we’re registering record numbers of new clients because of the crisis that we’re in, our overall numbers have not increased that dramatically,” explained Captain Winters. “We started going through our files and realized that some of the folks that are regulars were not coming in. So we decided to go ahead and offer delivery of the food pantry items, so even though they’re stuck at home, we can still get nutrition to them. We’re just thrilled to be able to do that.”

Those in need can contact either the Marquette or Ishpeming Salvation Army by phone to schedule a delivery time.

Captain Winters would like to thank the community for their consistent generosity and support. Some community members have even been assisting the Salvation Army in delivering lunches to those who aren’t able to leave home during this time.

“The community has been incredibly generous to us, so I wanted to say a big ‘Thank you’ to them for stepping in behind us in this crisis,” said Captain Winters. “There’s a lot of trust in the community for what the Salvation Army is doing. It’s an incredible community that we live in, and we’re able to do what we do only because the community is as generous as they are.”
