Veterans gearing up for Veteran’s Fishing Day and Boat Parade
MARQUETTE — Boat captains and veterans alike are gearing up for this year’s Veteran’s Fishing Day.
Boat captains and other early participants met at the Elk’s Lodge in Marquette, to get a head start on what should be a special day tomorrow.
“We get to do what we love to do, and we get to take people that have served our country and given a lot to our country,” said Luke Hubbard, Vice President of the South Shore Fishing Association. “So we get to share that with them. But what it’s really about, is when you come around that [Mattson] Lower Harbor and we come through that boat parade, that is a moment that there is nothing like it on this Earth.”
Over 160 veterans will participate in this year’s fishing trip, with over 70 boats volunteering to bring them on the water.
People with boats are in high demand, so if you have a boat and know Lake Superior’s waters, you’re encouraged to volunteer.
If you would like to show your support for these veterans, make sure to visit Mattson Lower Harbor Park tomorrow at 1 p.m.
