Driver sustains non-life threatening injuries in plow/salt truck accident
SKANDIA TOWNSHIP — A plow/salt truck driver sustained non-life threatening injuries after an accident on the Marquette/Alger County line in Skandia Township on Saturday morning.
At approximately 8:25 a.m., the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle accident involving an Alger County Road Commission plow/salt truck, just inside the Marquette County line. The driver, 53 year-old Terry Tyner of Limestone, MI, was heading north on US-41, removing snow from the roadway.
Investigators say that the wing blade dropped below the road surface on the shoulder and caught on the road edge, causing a slingshot effect to the vehicle. The driver said the vehicle spun around 180-degrees and then rolled over. The vehicle dumped a full load of salt onto the edge of the road.
Skandia/West Branch Township Fire and EMS was able to extricate Tyner from the vehicle. Investigators say he then walked out of the vehicle.
Tyner was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. He sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to UPHS – Marquette for treatment.
The Michigan State Police, UPHS EMS and the Alger County Road Commission assisted on the scene.
