Ceremony to be held for Peace Officers
NEGAUNEE–This week we honor the people who protect our communities around the Nation, as Monday is the start of National Police Week.
In 1962 President Kennedy and Congress dedicated this week to National Police Week, paying a special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
“We’re here to serve the community and the public and these officers have given the ultimate sacrifice of their life,” Trooper Stacy Rasanen said. “We need to remember them and take time out to do that for their family members and friends. Again we have been given that imagine that we’re the bad guys and we are the good guys, we’re out there and we are keeping the community safe, and we’re protecting our community. We want to make sure that the public can come to us when they have a problem because they trust us.”
The Upper Peninsula Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony will be held Thursday in the Sault Ste. Marie. A procession of patrol vehicles will drive through downtown to the Norris Center. An hour ceremony will follow starting at 11 a.m. in the Taffy Abel Arena
