UPDATE: Coast Guard finds missing boater; said to be in good condition

UPDATE — 2:30 p.m., Thursday, August 25th, 2016 EDT

A missing boater has been found in good condition.

The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office says 58-year-old Timothy Anderson of St.Clair was found around 11:00 am Thursday. Anderson was reported missing from Highrock Bay in Keweenaw County by a U.S. Coast Guard search vessel.

He was found on Manitou Island about three miles east of Highrock Bay, where he reportedly set sail around 5:00pm Wednesday headed for Copper Harbor. Anderson was unable to complete the trip due to weather conditions and prevailing winds.

About 5:00am Thursday, his 16 foot Starcraft sailboat washed up on the shore of Manitou Island. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter located him in good condition and transported him to the Houghton County Memorial Airport where he was met by family.

Participating in the search was the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Department, the U.S. Coast Guard and officers from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.


KEWEENAW COUNTY — The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Department says a search is on for a missing 58-year-old man who was reportedly attempting to sail to Copper Harbor.

According to the Keweenaw Report, The man left High Rock Bay around 5:00pm Wednesday.

Sheriff Deputies, along with the Coast Guard, are conducting the search on Lake Superior and the coast.
