Crews continue work on post-storm power outages
MARQUETTE — Crews continue to work to restore power to customers in the Western Upper Peninsula.
According to the Upper Peninsula Power Company’s Current Electric Outages website, as of 8:30 a.m. EDT Friday morning, scattered outages remained in Houghton, Ontonagon, Baraga, and Keweenaw Counties. UPPCO officials say crews will be out in the morning and throughout the day working to fix the remaining issues.

Officials estimate that around 26,000 customers were without power at any one time on Thursday. Outages were a result of high wind and lightning in many parts of UPPCO’s service territory. Around twenty line crews were in the field at the height of outages.
Three American Transmission Company (ATC) lines were damaged by the storms. Those lines have since been fixed. UPPCO brought online both the Portage and Gladstone Combusion Turbines to assist in providing power to the grid.
Residents are reminded to call UPPCO’s 24-hour electric emergency number at 1-800-562-7809 if they come across a downed wire or trees or limbs on lines. Downed power lines should always be considered energized, so residents should not touch or attempt to move them in any way.
