New campaign fights to end hunger
UPPER PENINSULA — Feeding America West Michigan distributed more than 27 million pounds of food to Michigan residents in 2015.
To help fight hunger here in the Upper Peninsula, the organization is teaming up with Walmart on a new campaign. It’s being called ‘Fight Hunger. Spark Change.’
Starting this week, you can donate money to the campaign at any Walmart checkout register, by purchasing certain products, or by using #FightHunger on social media. All of the donated money and food that’s collected will help those in need throughout the U.P.
“Walmart has been a big supporter of hunger relief for a long time,” said Andrew Steiner of Feeding America West Michigan. “All of their stores donate their surplus food to Feeding America members like us and they’ve also been supporting us with annual campaigns like this for a long time.”
The campaign runs through April 25th. According to the Map the Meal Gap report, one in every seven people is food insecure in West Michigan and in the Upper Peninsula.
