Career FEST goes heavy duty
HOUGHTON — It’s the Steel Industry’s turn to connect with Michigan Tech students.
Career FEST is going Heavy Duty. Steel industry reps were on hand as Industry Days continue at Michigan Tech.
Seven companies were represented from steel producers to supply manufactures, all looking to talk with the best and the brightest Tech has to offer.
Caterpillar’s Machine Research Controls Engineer Shawn Fanello said, “We communicate with Tech all the time. We try to come up here every year for our recruiting events. This year, we’re focusing on mostly on mechanical and electrical engineering-full time students as well as corporate interns.”
Students also got a chance to see a demonstration on how steel is made and watch a blacksmithing demo.
But while they are checking out those things out…the recruiters are sizing up the student as a potential employee.
Fanello said, “Do they align with our values? Do they have the same principles that we’re looking for? Do they want more hands on or do they want more of a simulation aspect of it.”
The next industry to be featured at Career FEST is mining on October 7th.
