Senior Living Community set to open its doors
NEGAUNEE — Drivers who travel on US-41 near Teal Lake have probably noticed a rather large building that’s been constructed just across from the lake. After nearly a year of construction, Teal Lake Senior Living Community is set to open its doors October first.
ABC 10 / CW 5 visited the new facility today to see what the new building looks like and what the staff has to offer to potential seniors looking to move-in.
“Watching the building come together over the past few months has been really exciting,” said administrator Julie Kelly. “It’s nice to see the changes. Furniture is moved in and the interior touches that are put together it makes it really special.”
Teal Lake Senior Living Community is a top of the line, 32,000 square foot complex with a breathtaking look of the popular swimming and fishing waters.
“The view is ultimately the best spot,” said Kelly. “It’s perched up on this little bluff so we look right over Teal Lake. It’s gorgeous. I’m really looking forward to seeing what it looks like come October when the leaves begin to change.”
Teal Lake Senior Living Community is licensed through the state as a home for the aged. It’s owned by Hinkson properties, which owns a six assisted living and continuing care communities in the Upper Peninsula.
“I know there is the need here to have something available for seniors to help care for them in a home setting, in their home, or we can take care of them through end of life.”
The community has thirty-eight total apartments. Right now, half of them are booked to have residents move in October first.
“I’d say the most exciting thing is meeting the families, meeting the residents that are scheduled to move in come October and getting to know them and their families. That’s the best part of my job.”
In addition to the apartments, seniors can either live on their own means or get assistance from staff members. The facility is setup to cater to any needs or care that a senior may need.
“We do respite stays as long as we have availability, which is considered to be a short-term stay to see either what they think about the community or if they have family that’s currently caring for a loved one at home and family is going on a extended vacation, we can care for the resident temporarily.”
Teal Lake Senior Living Community will host an open house for interested seniors and their families September 26 and 27th.
