Meth components found at two sites in Escanaba
ESCANABA — Two suspected meth labs were discovered in Escanaba this week.
Detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team say they responded to the first lab at the Escanaba City Landfill site at 9:30 Thursday morning. Components related to the manufacture of meth were located there in a recycling container. UPSET also responded at 1:00 a.m. Friday to assist police officers in Escanaba when meth-making components were found at a residence on South 12th Street. Detectives say no arrests have been made at this time.
UPSET is encouraging the public to use caution if they locate components related to meth. These components are often filled with hazardous materials and should only be handled by certified responders wearing protective equipment.
Since the beginning of the year, UPSET has responded to 55 meth labs across the U.P., which is a 50 percent increase from this time last year.
