Co-op celebrating first year at new facility

MARQUETTE — It’s been an entire year since the Marquette Food Co–op made the move to West Washington Street, which means it’s time to celebrate.

The Co–op will hold its first anniversary celebration tomorrow. Free coffee and tea will be provided throughout the day, along with samples and food demonstrations. Two local groups will also be in attendance to show visitors the importance of bees.

“The Conservation District and the Superior Beekeeping Club will be on hand to talk about pollinators, and what people can do to increase the number of pollinators and support pollinators, because pollinators are absolutely critical to food production,” said Natasha Lantz, Education and Outreach Director at the Co–op.

Over the first year in the new facility, the Co–op has opened up a full service meat and seafood department and worked on finding the right mix of products to meet customer demands.

“Being in our new facility certainly has increased our profile in the community,” added Lantz. “We’re much more visible, more easily accessible, and the community support that we’ve received for our new store has been significant.”

The anniversary celebration will include raffles for unique items, and the first hundred visitors will receive a special edition mug. The Co–op opens at 8:00 a.m.
