Seniors with moves in the ice skating rink
MARQUETTE – Marquette area seniors are warming up in the ice skating rink this winter despite the cold temperatures outside.
They are lacing up and hitting the ice, showing everyone that they still have moves at any age. That’s the spirit of some Marquette area seniors every Monday night.
“Letting them know that seniors are still able to get out here and skate. It’s amazing that people would say that’s a good idea to come out on a Monday night and join the crowd,” said Mary DeMarse, 60 years of experience on the ice.
“Moving, the exercise, it brings back memories from growing up in Marquette at the Palestra in particular,” said Kristine Gualazzi, who says she is enjoying getting back on the ice.
Along with being great exercise, they say it’s a good way to meet up with friends and make new friends. They invite everyone to join in on the fun and all levels of skaters are welcome. Even the inexperienced.
“I think it is good exercise and to embrace winter continued Kristine Gualazzi.
“I bought my wife skates this year to get her back into it because it’s been a lot of years since she has skated and it is more fun to skate with somebody,” said Nick Gualazzi.
“We just encourage everyone to come out because there’s always someone here that will help you. If you’ve never skated, there’s always someone who will help you get out on the ice. Everyone watches out for each other when we are out here. It’s like come on, get off the couch and get out here because it is a fun night.” continued DeMarse
Seniors skate for free and rental skates are available if you don’t have your own. Senior Skate takes place at 7:30pm every Monday night at Lakeview Arena in Marquette.
