UPAWS asks for support during “Cause 4 Paws” event
UPAWS is well known for helping out four-legged friends from all walks of life, but now they need you to return the favor.
The U.P. pet shelter is gearing up for its annual “Cause 4 Paws” event. The fundraiser has a new, less formal atmosphere, but still helps raise money for animals in need.
“Pets do so much for us and its our responsibility to do as much as we can for them. Our shelter is a small shelter, but we do such big work in the community,” said Lynn Andronis, UPAWS Board Member.
Several awards will be presented at the event. The Assisi Award will be given to Bill and Sarah Medick, who have supported the shelter since it was founded. But, humans aren’t the only ones who will be recognized for their service. Danny the dog will receive the Purple Paw Award for saving his owner, Jack Katajamaki, from a fire in Richmond Township.
“Its sort of a symbiotic relationship between our community and us. We couldn’t exist without their support, and we appreciate it to the nth degree,” Andronis added.
Tickets for “Cause 4 Paws” are $50, which covers two drink tickets and heavy hor d’oeuvres. They can be purchased at UPAWS, Mares-Z-Doats, The Pet Stop in Marquette, or online at UPAWS.org.
