Fire destroys home in Tamarack City
A large fire engulfed a house in Tamarack City Friday afternoon.
The Tamarack City Volunteer Fire Department received a call from a neighbor just after 3 p.m. to a house on the corner of Second and Spruce Streets near M–26.
According to one of the homeowners who spoke briefly to Tamarack City Fire Chief Steve Klein, her boyfriend was in the garage and when he looked back, the house was on fire.
He tried to run back in to save dogs inside the home, but could only rescue one. Nobody was in the house at the time.
The man was taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
The Red Cross and the Pigs–N–Heat Fire Relief Fund are offering their help and support.
